Elder Law Workshop
Instructor: Lisa R. Valente, Makofsky Law Group, PC
The Elder Law Workshop will provide an overview of estate and disability planning. This course will review such topics as paying for long term care; advance directives such as the Health Care Proxy, Living Will and DNRs’ methods currently authorized by law for surrogate financial decision making such as durable powers of attorney, revocable trusts and guardianship procedures’ and the basics of how assets are inherited through intestacy, by operation of law, wills and trusts. The probate process will be explained. Gift and estate taxes will be discussed as will methods of reducing or deferring gift and estate taxes. This course is designed to be a hands-on workshop with ample opportunity to see sample documents and to ask questions. Arguable, most of us would prefer to leave our money to our heirs rather than lose everything to catastrophic health care costs or to the government. We want to protect our spouses and our children. The Elder Law Workshop will provide answers to those who seek to make a plan. This course is designed to be a two-hour class.
